Definition

The uncontrolled expansion of a project's scope beyond what was originally defined in the SOW, typically without corresponding increases in budget or timeline. Scope creep is one of the most common causes of margin erosion in service businesses, and is best managed through a formal change request process and clear deliverable definitions.
